Based in London, Hg Capital was originally known as Mercury Private Equity, which was the private equity arm of Mercury Asset Management, a UK asset management firm. The company was acquired by Merrill Lynch in 1997 and eventually spun out from the bank in 2000.
Investment Strategy
- HgCapital invests in five sectors: Healthcare, Industrials, Services, TMT and Renewable Energy (separately, via a dedicated fund).
- HgCapital primarily focuses its buyout investments in the UK, Germany and the Nordic Region, as well as selectively across the rest of Western Europe.
- HgCapital maintains a large, well invested in-house Portfolio Support
- HgCapital targets European businesses and renewable energy generation projects between €20 million and €500 million in value. They look for those small and medium sized companies that have established a strong position within an industry niche but which have the potential to grow further - to become the clear market leader within their region, or to scale internationally
