Terra Firma

Formed in 1994 and initially part of Japanese Investment Bank Nomura led by Guy Hands, the division spun off in 2002 and was renamed Terra Firma.

Investment Strategy

Terra Firma Invests predominantly in Western Europe, across a range of sectors, and has focused on buyouts of large, asset-rich businesses, often with complex structural or regulatory issues, which are under-performing and in need of strategic, operational or management change. Terra Firma takes a very active approach to portfolio management.

The company has its headquarters in London and offices in Guernsey, Frankfurt and Beijing.

Terra Firma has been best known for its failed investment in music company EMI, which was later taken over by Citigroup, the main lender in the investment.
