Global Corporate and Investment Banking (GCIB) provides advice and services to large corporations, governments and institutions around the world. GCIB provides the firm’s clients with a broad range of services and products, including mergers and acquisitions and strategic advice, lending, access to debt and equity capital markets, treasury services and tailored risk management solutions.
Global Corporate and Investment Banking is split into 3 areas:
•Corporate Banking & Debt Capital Markets
•Equity Capital Markets
•Investment Banking
Corporate Banking/Debt Capital Markets
Bank of America Merrill Lynch has integrated its Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets businesses across EMEA. The role of the combined team is to manage client relationships, provide financial strategy advice and execute transactions across three key areas:
•Capital raising (e.g. bonds, loans, acquisition finance, leasing)
•Risk management (FX, rates, commodities, pensions)
•Treasury solutions including cash management and trade finance
The group works closely with the Investment Banking coverage teams, whose focus is primarily on M&A and equity.
Organised on a geographic basis, the Global Corporate Banking group serves a range of corporate clients on a global basis across the Americas, EMEA and Asia Pacific. Outside the US, the focus is on large global multinational corporate and financial institution clients. Within EMEA, we provide global solutions to over 600 corporate and financial institution clients across the region, and have a relationship with 70% of FTSE 100 UK Corporates.
Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets cover a broad array of areas across financial markets, with a need to work on a range of complex solutions and with a diverse range of people across the bank to deliver for our clients. Given that many of the product areas are market dependent, the landscape is constantly evolving, which ensures a rewarding career experience.
Overview
As a Summer Analyst within Global Corporate Banking and Debit Capital Markets, you will:
•Assist Global Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets professionals in relationship management, origination and execution across a diverse set of product areas
•Gain an in-depth understanding of our clients, the industries in which they operate and how the bank helps support both their growth aspirations and day-to-day banking requirements
•Provide market-informed judgments on a broad array of financing strategies to address clients’ specific needs
•Become proficient at credit analytics and the various metrics used to price and structure various debt instruments
•Gain familiarity with the legal and documentation aspects of various debt instruments as key step in debt execution
•Work on live transactions and interact with clients as you build your network and experience
•Help to generate ideas and cross selling opportunities for new and existing clients
•Support the Global Corporate Banking and Debt Capital Markets team in the development of client specific analysis (e.g. capital structure, acquisition finance)
•Stay informed on the latest market developments, interacting with other teams as appropriate
•Work closely with Investment Banking teams on client coverage and origination
Equity Capital Markets
Equity Capital Markets originates a wide variety of equity solutions for our clients. When a client decides to raise capital in the public or private markets, Corporate and Investment bankers turn to the Equity Capital Markets team. Equity Capital Markets partners with the coverage team and advises clients on optimal methods to access capital, whether for acquisitions, general financing or strengthening of balance sheets.
Equity Capital Markets originates, structures, and executes worldwide equity, equity-linked and equity derivatives products on behalf of the firm’s global corporate and institutional client base. The equity product suite includes initial public offerings, rights offerings, accelerated placements, convertible bonds, hedging structures, margin loans and structured purchases/disposals.
Overview
As a summer analyst within Equity Capital Markets, you will:
•Work as a product specialist alongside Global Investment Banking teams to create and deliver financing solutions through equity, equity-linked and/or derivative products to the company’s clients
•Provide market-informed judgments on a broad array of financing strategies to address clients’ specific needs
•Design highly tailored presentations for clients to outline solutions to their equity financing needs
•Work on live transactions and interact with clients as you build your network and experience
•Help generate ideas and opportunities for new and existing clients through in-depth research, financial modeling and industry analyses
•Work with sales teams and traders in the Global Markets division and liaise with the Global Research division to stay informed on the latest market developments, as well as coordinate and manage live deal executions
Investment Banking
The Investment Banking business is organized across country and industry coverage teams, which include Consumer and Retail, Energy and Power, Financial Institutions, Healthcare, Multi-Industries, Real Estate, Gaming and Leisure, and Telecoms, Media and Technology. In addition the Investment Banking division includes a dedicated Mergers and Acquisitions team, a Leveraged Finance team, and a Financial Sponsors coverage team. Individuals in Global Investment Banking build long term relationships with the CEOs, CFOs and Boards of Directors of our clients and advise them on strategic topics, mergers and acquisitions, and capital structure. They also work closely with product specialists in Equity Capital Markets and Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking to originate and execute debt and equity financing and treasury solutions for our clients.
Overview
As a Summer Analyst within Global Investment Banking, you will:
•Work on projects alongside bankers in specific industry, product and country coverage groups, providing you with a unique learning opportunity
•Help the team deliver solutions to clients with the full spectrum of the bank’s capabilities. Actively contribute to the preparation of client presentation and underlying valuation analysis
•Build relationships, knowledge and experience that will open doors to a wide range of future career options and opportunities
•Through our unique pooling system, you will have the opportunity to work in industry, product and coverage groups to give you a first-hand understanding of the investment banking profession and offer you the chance to explore your best fit for full-time placement
Training
The 9 week programmes from June to August are designed to help you decide whether our offer matches your aspirations and include:
•One week induction and training programme with classroom instruction
•Summer Senior Speaker Series, featuring global & divisional presentations by top executives
•Opportunities to interact with senior bankers and network with peers
•Constructive feedback sessions through performance evaluations
Qualifications
•Applications are accepted from a diverse range of degree disciplines such as the arts and humanities, as well as numerically focused subjects such as economics and mathematics
•Strong A-level grades and on track for a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent)
•Fluency in English is essential and a second European language may also be required for some roles
•You’ll need to demonstrate drive, innovation and a genuine interest in the financial markets
•Team-working, leadership and problem-solving skills, plus creativity are key qualities, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task and interact with a variety of people
