HOW WE’RE ORGANIZED
The Merchant Banking Division (“MBD”) is one of the world’s leading private investing platforms. The division invests in equity and credit across dedicated corporate, real estate and infrastructure strategies. MBD and its predecessor business areas have been an integral part of the Goldman Sachs global franchise for more than 25 years and remain differentiated from peers. Funds raised by MBD and its predecessor business areas have been investing in private equity since 1986, stressed and distressed investments since 1990, real estate equity since 1991, mezzanine securities since 1996, infrastructure since 2006, senior secured loans since 2008 and real estate credit since 2009. In addition, MBD has invested the firm’s capital in growth stage and technology companies globally since 1982. The division is organized into three key businesses: Real Estate, Corporate, and Infrastructure.
INFRASTRUCTURE TEAM
In 2006, Goldman Sachs formed the Infrastructure Investment Group (“IIG”) and launched its first infrastructure investment fund, GSIP I. In 2010, Goldman Sachs raised its second infrastructure fund, GSIP II; the team is currently raising its third fund, WSIP III. The Infrastructure Partners funds have invested in 20 investments and are the primary vehicles for Goldman Sachs’ direct investments in infrastructure and infrastructure-related assets and companies. They seek to pursue a buy-and-hold strategy that invests in assets with strong, stable cash flows. IIG has over 20 investment professionals based in New-York and London dedicated to investing and managing Goldman Sachs’ series of infrastructure funds.
HOW YOU WILL FULFILL YOUR POTENTIAL
• Researching and evaluating potential infrastructure investment opportunities, both qualitatively and quantitatively
• Day-to-day point person on various acquisition and asset management transactions, with specific focus on financial modelling, auditing, due diligence and reporting
• Contributing to the preparation of discussion materials on proposed investment opportunities for the consideration of the Infrastructure Investment Committee
• Involvement in the documentation, structuring and financing aspects of transactions
Basic Qualifications
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR
• Ideal candidate will possess a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and have an excellent academic and professional record
• 1-2 years of extensive work experience at an investment bank or private equity firm
• Fluency in English as well as Italian OR Spanish
• Excellent Microsoft Office skills (in particular Excel), excellent negotiation and communication skills, in addition to being able to coordinate due diligence processes and execution of transactions
• The candidate must therefore be financially competent, with excellent attention to detail, a clear ability to multi-task, and an ability to work to goals/deadlines
• Solid work ethic and motivation level
• Strong leadership skills and the ability to coordinate large teams, including advisors across Europe
