Goldman Sachs Merchant Banking Division – Principal Debt Group – Associate, London

In Europe, Goldman Sachs Principal Investment Area focuses on investing in private equity across a broad range of industries, geographies and companies in primarily developed markets. Principal investing engages in purchasing equity, private subordinated debt, mezzanine capital or senior secured loans in mostly competitively bid transactions and working with management and operating partners to enhance the value of purchased companies.
Responsibilities
— Researching and assessing potential investment opportunities, both qualitatively and quantitatively
— Building and operating complex financial models for company valuation purposes
— Participating in business analysis to help the team form a view on the merits of a potential investment
— Contributing to the preparation of discussion materials on proposed investment opportunities for the consideration of the Goldman Sachs Internal Investment Committee
— Participating in the monitoring of new and existing portfolio investments, and attending monitoring sessions with the portfolio companies’ management
Basic Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills
— Ideal candidate will possess a relevant bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification and have an excellent academic and professional record. An MBA qualification is preferred
— Background in leverage Finance or buy-side with at least 2 years of relevant experience in a credit fund or top rated investment bank (leveraged finance background)
— Strong quantitative, financial modelling, analytical, problem-solving skills
— Capability to work well under pressure and keen to take on responsibility
— Strong communication and interpersonal skills critical due to high level of interaction with other divisions, advisors and potential targets
— Real passion for fundamental credit investing, solid work ethic and motivation level
— Strong leadership skills
— Fluency in English and European languages strongly preferred
