Role Purpose
Strategic Innovation Investments is one of the key pillars of HSBC’s global innovation strategy and focused on accelerating innovation at HSBC through investments in emerging companies relevant to financial services.
Investments will be made on the basis of financial returns and strategic/commercial returns to HSBC’s strategy, business lines, operations, regions, products and services as appropriate.
The team is now seeking a German speaking full-time Analyst or Associate to join the team.
Key Accountabilities
Impact on the Business
Support to senior investment professionals in all aspects of the investment process (origination, due diligence, execution, etc.)
Support in managing portfolio companies through the investment life cycle (valuations, internal connectivity, exit process, etc.)
Support the team in achieving key strategic goals and managing of internal and external stakeholders as appropriate.
Assist in evaluating investment opportunities by undertaking detailed analysis, inter alia, strategic, financial, market, commercial, management
Assist in investment due diligence process and managing internal and external advisors (strategic, commercial, market, financial, etc.)
Prepare investments submissions
Assist in all investment execution process including documentation, compliance, internal sign-offs
Monitor investments and help prepare valuations and strategic returns reviews
Participate in development of annual investment themes and strategies
Support team in knowledge sharing and innovation development within HSBC
Customers / Stakeholders
First and foremost, a resource for the Strategic Innovation Investments senior investment professionals.
Portfolio companies – work with portfolio companies to develop strategic relevance with HSBC and value-add from HSBC
Internal businesses – work with internal business champions to develop strategic ties to portfolio companies
Leadership & Teamwork
Collaboration with stakeholders internally and externally
Build trust with senior team members and foster team culture and team improvement

Management of Risk
Is aware of Operational Risk scenarios associated with the role and acts in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.
Up-to-date on Operational Risk training
Observation of Internal Controls
Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy
Qualifications
Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
Must speak German and English fluently
Knowledge and enthusiasm for venture capital
Experience of working in small teams with senior investment professionals
Solid understanding of the financial markets and key trends
Experienced in researching, analysing and presenting on industries, companies and strategy
Experience in financial modelling and company valuations
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
