Bain Capital was founded in 1984 in Boston by ex partners of Bain & Company, the strategy consultancy firm. The firms are not legally related. Bain Capital was originally created as an early stage VC fund, but over the years grew into an multi-strategy investment firm, which activities include private equity, venture capital, public equity, high-yield assets and mezzanine capital funds.

Affiliates include:

- Bain Capital Private Equity - LBO arm

- Brookside Capital - public equity affilaite

- Sankaty Advisors - credit affiliate (leveraged loans, high-yield bonds, distressed/stressed debt, mezzanine debt, structured products and equitie)

- Bain Capital Ventures - Venture Capital arm

- Absolute Return Capital - asset manager in fixed income, commodities and currencies.

In 1987, the firm set up its London based private equity affiliate to pursue investment opportunities in Europe.To date, the company has completed over 250+ equity investments with aggregate transaction values of over $100bn.

Investment Strategy

- Bain Capital pursues investments in a wide variety of industries, but has developed expertise in the TMT, healthcare, industrial, consumer and retail and financial services sectors. Transactions may involve venture/expansion capital for public companies, industry consolidation or management buy outs, also various types of financing will be considered including puclib/private equity and mezzanine debt.

-Bain Capital seeks to develop close partnerships with exceptional management teams, and portfolio companeis have historically been aggressive acquirers in their industry grtoups and have grown significantly through strategic acquisitions
