Cinven was founded in 1977, initially as an investment vehicle for the prension fund of Britsh Coal (Cinven stands for “Coal Investment Nominees for Venture Capital), as well as the pension funds of Barclays Bank and the Railway Industry. Cinven has been a pioneer of the 1billion+ LBOs in several markets such as France, the Netherlands, Spain and the UK. Cinven has offices in London, Paris, Frankfurt, Milan and Hong Kong

Investment Strategy

The company focuses on six sectors: Business Services, Consumer, Financial Services, Healthcare, Industrials, and Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT). The investments are made in Europe; the Hong Kong office is purely a portfolio management office that helps their portfolio companies to grow in Asia. In terms of size, Cinven invests in companies that require an equity stake of €100 million or more.
