Founded in 1985, Permira was initially knows as Schroders Ventures (part of Schroders), and was renamed Permira in 2001 when it became independent. Permira is a latin word meaning “very surprising, very different”. The company was initially a very European focused private equity firm, but started to diversify in 2002 with the opening of a New York office, followed by a Tokyo office in 2005 and Hong Kong and Silicon Valley offices in 2008.
Investment Strategy
Permira specialise in five key sectors of activity: Consumer, Financial Services, Healthcare, Industrials and TMT (Technology, Media, Telecommunications). Permira is particularly well known for its investments in fashion brands Hugo Boss and Valentino.
