Black River is currently seeking a Senior Associate to be based in the firm’s London (Cobham) office as part of our private equity fund that makes growth-oriented equity investments in the food/agribusiness industry across global emerging markets.  The Senior Associate will support a London-based Managing Director in identifying, executing and managing investments primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, and on a case-by-case basis in select countries in Eastern Europe and Latin America.
Primary Responsibilities:
• 30% - Construct, review and maintain detailed financial/operating models (e.g. discounted cash flow, comparable company, and precedent transaction analyses) for existing and potential investments; assist in the development of investment structures and terms
• 20% - Support deal sourcing and execution activities, including but not limited to collection and analysis of market information for assigned sub-sectors and potential investee companies in target countries
• 20% - Draft investment memoranda and assist with conducting and documenting of comprehensive due diligence
• 20% - Assist in the monitoring and managing of portfolio investments from funding through exit
• 10% - Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree from a leading university in the United States or Europe
• Substantial experience researching or investing in natural resources or commodities
• Established private equity or investment banking experience focused on sub-Saharan Africa
• Strong financial analysis skills with extensive financial modeling experience in Excel
• Fluency in English and strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting
• High degree of personal integrity, self-motivation, and attention to detail
• Willingness to travel extensively within sub-Saharan Africa and to select other geographies
