Description
The Special Situations Group within Leveraged Finance represents the core of our alternative credit offering. It has always been a core capability and has existed within the firm since inception. The opportunities within this division range from stressed and distressed credit investments to event driven equity and credit and represent a challenging but very rewarding career opportunity to the most talented investment analysts within the industry. The Global Leveraged Finance department as a whole is made up of roughly 25 members of staff based in London, the US and Ireland. The department is headed by Anthony Robertson, Partner, Head of Global Leveraged Finance Group, Senior Portfolio Manager.
Programme Structure:
• The Global Leveraged Finance Internship programme will be 6 months’ long (commencing April/May 2016), with the potential to extend to 12 months and focus primarily on giving the intern the opportunity to gain an understanding of and be involved in day-to-day credit investing work, marketing, portfolio monitoring and investor relations.
• The successful Global Leveraged Finance intern will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of the department as a whole and be involved in day-to-day projects and tasks as well as observe and learn from BlueBay employees on more sensitive tasks.
• In addition to on-the-job training and support, interns are invited to attend a one-day Introduction to Asset Management course, comprising an interactive session in the morning with an external training provider, followed by lunch with the CEO and Head of HR, and then afternoon presentations from Partners or Department Heads from across the business. Interns also attend tailored Make the Most of Your Internship at BlueBay sessions throughout their programme, to enhance and develop both their professional and personal skills whilst deepening their understanding of BlueBay.
• During the internship, structured and detailed performance feedback will be provided to interns.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will work within the Special Situations team, as part of the Global Leveraged Finance strategy. Key responsibilities when working for Special Situations team will include:
• Supporting the team in the day-to-day credit investment process.
• Assisting with due diligence research, financial analysis and preparation of investment committee materials.
• Assisting with communication and responses to investor due diligence requests and preparation of marketing materials for existing and new fund launches.
• Preparation of marketing materials.
• Participating in / observing meetings.
Qualifications
• Degree educated with at least a 2:1 achieved at year 2 and expected or achieved 2:1 final grade.
• Final-year university student or recent graduate, with an excellent overall academic profile.
Personal Skills and Experience:
• Excellent communication skills and a strong capacity and desire to use initiative.
• Ability to provide examples of a pro-active approach to personal development.
• Ability to demonstrate commercial thinking alongside a positive, ‘can-do’ attitude to all aspects of work.
• Good proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
• Very strong analytical capability, both quantitative and qualitative.
• Attention to detail, a strong analytical capacity and effective communication skills are essential for this role.
