3i is currently looking for an experienced Senior Associate to join its Infrastructure investment team, to be based in London. 3i’s Infrastructure investment team focuses on investments in a wide range of infrastructure assets including public private partnership projects, renewables and core infrastructure assets.

The role of the Senior Associate is focused on execution and origination of greenfield infrastructure projects in the UK and elsewhere in Europe, including renewable generation, transmission and PPPs. The role will involve aspects of portfolio management. The role is responsible for the following:
•Research into greenfield infrastructure project markets in Europe;
•Co-ordination of project execution, including contract negotiation, financial structuring and modelling, and securing suitable debt finance, under the overall direction of a Director. In addition to overall co-ordination, the role will involve leading execution of key workstreams;
•Management of external advisers supporting execution including legal advisers and advisers under taking due diligence. This role will involve controlling pre-sanctioned bid cost budgets
•Leading the preparation of detailed, rigorous investment papers, and participating in their presentation to the 3i Infrastructure partner group and the 3i Investment Committee;
•Participation in development and presentation of marketing initiatives to potential project sponsor partners
•Development/expansion of networks with sponsors and intermediaries;
•Assuming non executive director positions in certain larger project investments; and
•Liaison with and oversight of SPV managers responsible for day-to-day management of the portfolio investments.

The successful candidate will report to the 3i Infrastructure head of greenfield originiation and will work with our team of professionals located in London and Paris, and will have the opportunity to work on new investment opportunities and fund raising initiatives in the UK and continental Europe. The role will involve extensive liaison with the senior management team of 3i infrastructure team.

As a Senior Associate your main responsibilities will involve the following:

Managing, enhancing and reporting portfolio performance by taking responsibility for areas such as:

Modelling debt/project finance and using analytical tools.
Reviewing and manipulating long term financial models for the purposes of portfolio valuation.
In-depth researching of macro economic factors and valuation comparators.
Promptly escalating issues that may impact project value or relationships with portfolio lenders
Developing robust commercial solutions to support protection and/or enhancement of value in projects, including evaluation of such solutions and presentation to senior management
Project management of implementation of approved commercial solutions, including liaison with/co-ordination of legal, technical and financial advisors, together with SPV managers and portfolio lenders
Assisting with portfolio administration and ensuring compliance with 3i internal procedures.

Involvement in transacting selected new investments and fundraising initiatives, including responsibility for:

Evaluating investment opportunities and new fund raising initiatives through financial (eg yield and IRR projections) and commercial analysis (project risks and their mitigation).
Formulating views on investment opportunities (addressing value potential and risks) and presenting findings cogently in internal initial briefings
Analysing and interpreting results from financial models to support a proposed investment case.
Drafting sections of/providing input to Investment Committee papers.
Assisting with transaction administration and ensuring compliance with 3i internal procedures.
Working with external financial advisors to develop financial model functionality to meet investor’s needs.
Liaising with financial and due diligence advisers and promptly escalating matters internally that could impact the 3i investment case.
Interacting and co-operating with clients, bankers, advisers and management.

As a Senior Associate your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

Strong record of academic achievement
Team player who is hard working and proactive
Strong commercial and financial analysis skills, including financial modelling, DCF valuation and company/industry research skills
Prior work experience in project or structured finance, financial advisory or other related fields

Experience of investing in greenfield infrastructure projects, including renewable generation projects
High level of professionalism, maturity, superior attention to detail
Ability and desire to manage multiple tasks and projects
Ability to present complex ideas and information in simple persuasive form, written and orally; fluent in English, with a preference for competence in other European languages.
